Legs Diamond Whiskey (Aged)
Rye
Nahmias et Fils // New York, USA
Dorit and David Nahmias began producing rye in their upstate distillery after first producing Mahia, a fig brandy modeled after the one David's family made at home in Morocco. The Legs Diamond Whiskey is named for a wily, flamboyant Prohibition bootlegger (who was a particularly good dancer, hence the "legs.
") The rye for the whiskey is grown on locally sustainable farms. Note: there is a white version of this whiskey with the same name, this is the aged version.

RyeUnlike bourbon, rye whiskey can be made anywhere in the world. But if made in the US, the mash bill recipe must be at least 51% rye and it must be aged in new, charred oak barrels with no age requirement. Elsewhere, the rye whiskey will be made keeping the country of origin's rules regarding the recipe and minimum aging.

Tasting Notes
"A very unique, rich and fruity rye! Lots of dark dried fruits on the palate - prunes, raisins, dates, figs, with sweet, malty cereal flavors (think Sugar Smacks), dark chocolate and lots of cinnamon. Clove-black pepper heat on the finish. Does have that telltale green pepperness of a young whiskey, but the fruit and spice do a good job of keeping that way in the back."
