Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series 2022 BRT-02

Similar to BRT -1. Marshmallow sweet smell on the nose fresh caramel. A more complex tasting experience than brt-1. Baking spices, dessert finish with a stronger burn on the backend. Enjoyable dessert.

Yooooo. This was smooth and sweet and delicious from the start. One of my biggest gripe with Makers original is how spicy it is but this was smooth and easy on the palette from the start

This particular Makers is really interesting as it is very flavorful and leaves a lot on the pallet during the finish. The nose is full of oak, fruit, and cacao. Toffee and caramel are also in the mix. Upon sipping this bourbon, there is an immediate sweetness followed by a smokey presence. The smoke lingers well into the finish. The caramel taste mixed with butter is quite delicious and certainly worth the price of the bottle. I wouldn’t consider the finish to be long but it is very pleasant.

Nose offers creme brûlée, brown sugar, molasses, caramel, vanilla, blackberry, ripe plum, Concord grape, date, and cinnamon. Aroma is rich, and ethanol is next to non-existent. A promising start. Palate matches the nose almost precisely so as not to be redundant, see the notes above. A little butterscotch that I didn’t get in the nose. Flavors are vibrant and punchy. Finish turns sharply spicy with pink peppercorn and some slightly astringent oak, but then morphs again into caramel flan, wood varnish, cocoa powder, candy corn, and toffee. Insanely long. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and not much else to say about it other than a thicker mouthfeel would have worked wonders here. All in all, an enjoyable sweet, dark whiskey and vastly better than the BRT-01, but not as much of a hit as say FAE-01. At $76.99, I feel it’s value is fair and thus would consider it a rebuy.

nose - deep, oak forward note, a slight orange peel in there. definite chocolate under the oak taste - dusty oak, heavy chocolate on the palette that only deepens as it finishes very enjoyable pour

Cocoa, cinammon

Nose: Vanilla, Caramel, Brown Sugar, Butterscotch candy. Palate: Spicy, cherry, slightly sweet (less than one would expect from Maker's), oak. The spice really lingers on the back of the tongue. Finish is medium with lingering spice. This is a nice pour, and it earns a solid 4-stars. Might have elbowed out the 46 as my favorite Maker's expression. Added 9/22/23: I'm finishing my bottle tonight, and I wanted to mention that I got a serious dose of butterscotch in these final pours. This was an excellent expression from the folks at Maker's Mark. Upping my score from 4.0 to 4.25.
