Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series 2023 BEP

Aroma- very soft and light. Caramel, vanilla frosting, oak. There’s even a slight potpourri-like note in there or an old craft store. Slight red fruit tones. Again, just very soft notes here. Taste - Wow. I was not expecting that at all. Bold caramel and vanilla notes paired with alcohol soaked fruits. I’m getting cherries, berries and even a slight citrus. Getting a quite a bit of floral notes at the mid to back palate. Overall - Decent Kentucky hug, flavors are nice and it’s a pretty well balanced whiskey. Nothing to be wowed about and price is just okay for the offering.

Sweet and delicious. Big notes of caramel and vanilla.

Color: medium amber. Nose: Oak, leather and apples. Palate: First sip I took neat. Initial alcohol assault on the sinuses, along with a nice warm hug. Dropped in a large ice ball to tone it down and allow the flavors to come forward. First sip with ice revealed a very spicy profile along with the inevitable sweetness I'd expect from Maker's. However, I'm having trouble identifying specifics on this very first pour.* Finish: Drying and spicy/tingly. *I plan on adding more details in the very near future — including results from a blind I am planning to conduct between this BEP and the two 2023 BRT releases.
