Mellow Corn Bottled in Bond Whiskey

Smell: Like a dusty barn full of feed and hay. Taste: Has a subtle sweetness with a bit of dusty corn mixed in. Very straight forward flavor. No complexity whatsoever. Definitely feel the proof in the mouth, little bit of a burn on the tongue. Not bad, not great. Neat. 10.14.20

Tried Neat: Very vanilla and corn syrup, and a bit of sweet corn bread on the nose, maybe a hint of banana. The 100 proof isn't really hiding but isn't too over dominant on the nose. Mouthfeel is thin, pretty hot but not unbearable. Vanilla, spice, and sweetness up front, and a hint of what I would describe as "maltiness" despite the negligible malt content. Basically fades immediately to a slight dusty oaky finish with a hint of lingering vanilla. Overall not terrible but not exactly the "hype" whisky I was hoping for. It's worth $13 for sure, don't think I would pay over 20 though. I can see myself rebuying this for cocktails, bottled in bond for this price is not bad at all.

Mellow corn is very light gold in color. The nose is corn syrup and alcohol. Of course corn is the flavor that dominates the whiskey. There's sweetness, but it has an almost medicinal quality to it. I get a little cinnamon and a bit of buttered popcorn, but there's not a lot going on here complexity wise. The finish seems a bit astringent to me, although at 100 proof its fairly easy drinking. This is not one I would sip often, but it might make an interesting cocktail mixer.

You can definitely tell this uses primarily corn. This is not so good at first, but the finish overcomes the initial shortcomings.

Thought I’d finally give this one a shot and mark it off the bucket list. Tried neat. Nose - pretty strong alcohol scent, little bit of corn, probably should let this one open up a little bit longer, reminds me of a corn flake. Palate - sweet on the front end, very corn forward, obviously, like a creamed corn, mid and back end get a little bit of peanut and buttered popcorn, touch of butterscotch. It has some spice to it, those first few sips getting a nice Kentucky hug. Finish - quick fades fast with the peanut and popcorn Probably wouldn’t sip this one neat on a regular basis, as a mixer though can definitely see the appeal. I can see why bartenders like for mixing. For approx $15 is a great mixer.
