Muckle Flugga Single Malt

Delicious smooth light whisky, pear and honey notes

This whiskey is at the absolute top of my "bang for your buck" whiskey. It's a beautiful romance of chocolate and nuts. It doesn't have the burn of cheaper whiskeys.. the finish is smooth and pleasing. It's hard to find... but I see it skyrocketing into popular spheres in the very near future. I know I will lament its value as it overtakes more prominent brands and starts to increase its pricing.

Nose: Spicy, vanilla, summer fruit, caramel, lightly floral. Palate: Sherried, dried fruit, sweet, orchard fruit, heather honey. Light oak and hints of minerality Finish: Medium long finish. Citrus, Granny Smith apples. More of the oak and honey, and more prominent hay/floral notes than the palate. Sours on the aftertaste. Named after an island in the Shetland Islands archipelago, c110 miles north-east of the Scottish mainland. The whisky is distilled at an unnamed Speyside distillery. Aged in first-use Sherry oak casks, before being transported up to the Shetland Islands to age for a year, then transported back down to mainland Scotland to be bottled. Not the most carbon conscious whisky! This is a sherried, easy drinking and uncomplicated dram. Not particularly remarkable, but the slightly oily mouthfeel, sherry and dry fruit notes with hints of wood and hay keep it interesting enough. A session dram.

Very non descript.

I have no clue what the hell a Muckle Flugga is - can't be Gaelic / sounds like a name cooked by Jim Henson - but it was surprisingly delicious. There's oak and vanilla on the nose (bourbon), with honey and carnation on the palate. It's balanced but weak, and the low ABV hinders. Still not bad. Cheers!
