New Riff 4 Year Single Barrel Bourbon

One of the better and spicier bourbons for a good price

On the nose, this one was very simple. Pretty much honey and vanilla, but also a little citrus zest. On the palate, I got a good amount of alcohol burn, but what followed was bubble gum, black pepper and a little leather. Overall the flavors were harmonious and really played well in the long finish. Very enjoyable and would love to see this offering aged up to see what else it would pick up.

This is my second pour from this bottle, and I learned from the first that this takes a good bit of time to open up in the glass. After 5 minutes, I am getting the most delicate, sweet, berry-like nose off of this, like berry fruit-by-the-foot mixed with a hint of woodsy cologne. There's also a touch of cinnamon gum, like Big Red? The taste is light, drinking below its proof, which is admittedly not very high. There is an initial woodsy, cologne, and maple syrup quality to this. What follows is cinnamon, anise, bazooka Joe bubble gum, and sweet cream sugar like in coffee creamer. There's a nice hug and a really long finish that ever so slowly dissipates. It reminds me a bit of a pancake and maple syrup breakfast. I said the "pancake and maple syrup" part out loud (using voice to text) and my wife said "yup!" in the background. So, we both think so.
