Nine Square Rye
Elm City Distillery // Connecticut, USA
This young distillery names their rye whiskey for the nine square layout of the “Elm City” (New Haven, CT). This white whiskey is produced in small batches, briefly “aged” in oak, and then put in 375ml, hand-numbered bottles.
WhiteDistilled from a cereal mash bill comprised of any grain(s). Generally unaged except in the US, where it must age at least briefly in oak for an unspecified amount of time. Sometimes sold as "moonshine" although that is a misnomer.
"The nose is complex for a white whiskey and definitely shows rye characteristics like white pepper and a zesty spiciness. The palate is full and shows bitter chocolate, cereal grains, and a fair amount of heat. The finish is long and appetizing and happily, the rye is there will you all along. "
