Ninety 5 Year Whisky
Highwood // Alberta, Canada
This five-year-old whisky is the youngest whisky of the Highwood Ninety lineup. 100% corn whisky spent its entire life aging in charred oak barrels then blended to 45% alcohol. In 2013, a devastating flood swept across Highwood’s Alberta home ravaging whisky stocks. Today, the Ninety brand is finally making its way back onto store shelves to much fanfare. Available only in Canada.
CanadianDISTILLED IN CANADA AND AGED IN BARRELS FOR AT LEAST THREE YEARS; OFTEN (BUT NOT ALWAYS) CANADIAN WHISKIES ARE BLENDS OF CORN, BARLEY, AND RYE WHISKIES WHICH WERE DISTILLED AND MATURED SEPARATELY. TRADITIONALLY, CANADIAN WHISKEY IS CALLED “RYE”, ALTHOUGH NO MINIMUM PERCENTAGE OF RYE-GRAIN WHISKY IS REQUIRED IN A BLEND.

"What a clean nose where the younger alcohol notes have been put on a leash in favor of the oak spice’s gentler side. This allows the caramel, vanilla and saw dust characters to effortlessly blend into the mix. In the mouth, the spices are unleashed with a fresh juiciness where the corn whisky fires off focused baking spices such as cinnamon. This whisky hits all the right notes leading up to a finale of citrus fruits with all the previous characteristics coming out for a curtain call. "
