Served: One medium sized ice cube over a regular pour
Notes: Extremely smooth notes of oak & a tinge of pine fill the mouth. This eventually settles down as the cherry and vanilla swirl around before the spice of the wood finishes it off.
Comments: Very good notes for a very good price. It is a great sipper, but if you dont like a woodsy mouthful, I wouldn’t recommend this bottle. In a sense, it is so oaky that it gives off a bit of the bitter aspects of the wood. It’s a lot more velvety and cherry-like without is being over ice.
Very peppery - Double oaking not coming through. Slightest hint of vanilla. Has something of a medicinal throat lozenge quality to it. Would probably pass on this for something like Woodford Reserve Double Oaked instead.
I quite like this one. Theres a bit more burn than you'd expect from a 90 proof. It can come off a bit much at first, but theres some good flavors going on.
Dark cherry, spice and dark caramel on the nose. Good but nothing incredible really. Again, quite a bit of burn there. But the flavors really grew on me.
It became more apparent of a raspberry jam note on the palate over time. Theres some nice dark fruit notes there which the spice does well with. Oak is pretty heavy but not to an extreme level. The oak goes really well with the flavors along side it. Theres a some butterscotch, slight coffee note.
It finishes heavily on vanilla which lingers along with the spice. That vanilla is a nice finishing touch after the dark fruit.
I could see this being a love or hate kind of bourbon. For me the oak and dark fruit notes work really well together along with the spice.
The nose is mostly wheaty and woody with a hint of fruit and caramel notes. The palette is warm, oily, and spicy, with a bit of the sweetness from the caramel lingering. The finish is surprisingly smooth, with the fire from the spiciness of the palette staying in the mouth rather than following down the throat. There is a slight medicinal taste to the finish, and the wheat and woody notes from the nose reappear.
Vanilla and some char on the nose. The tasting notes include baking spices like cinnamon, but bring a little more heat in the spiceness that hits rhe mouth initially. It is then mellowed by the oakiness and brightens in the finish.
