Nose 1: a little ethanol, corn, vanilla, and carmel, cherry, oak,
Taste 1: light and fruity at first, then you get a kick in the chest of heat and buttery carmel.
Nose 2: a lot of the same add orange citrus and raisins. Hint of something similar to a baked pie crust.
Taste 2: now I get the rye coming through with a little mint and clove. Cinnamon adds to the range of flavors and the orange peel comes through on the finish. The lingering flavor after a while is dark chocolate, like very dark chocolate, almost bitter but in a good way.
The finish itself is good, flavors linger and develop as you wait for the next sip. Warmth in the chest and belly.
I got this bottle for 39.99 after having it on my radar for a while.
I would say, compared to wild turkey rare breed, this might be just slightly less complex and buttery. The rare breed is very rich and the oak char comes through more.
Both of these are excellent pours. I would strongly recommend this one from old forester.
