Taste like a glorified Jack Daniels. Wasn’t really feeling this one. I liked some of the spicy notes it had to it. To be fair I had it neat and then in an old fashioned. I usually prefer my whiskey neat, even Rye.
To sum up, there are definitely better rye whiskey out there.
Very spicy. Strong mint, with a bit of eucalyptus. Can smell the malt and musty leather but it’s overpowered by the rye spices on the palate. This is an enjoyable rye but I think I prefer those that meander more towards the cinnamon side.
Uncorking- taste test against Michter's, Russell's 6yr, and Pikesville.
Nose - compared to the others it's really full on the nose. More leather and grain. Richer.
Taste - Oak and leather dance equal with the rye. Char and spice balance it out.
Finish - is medium long with more sweetness and again leathery coming in. Hints of that stale barrel air in the end. Was my 1st pick of the set.
