Botran No. 8 Ron de Guatemala
Aged Rum
Botran // Guatemala
Botran Rum is a single estate rum which uses two varieties of sugarcane which are harvested on the Pacific south coast of Guatemala. The first press of sugarcane (aka virgin sugar cane honey) is used for distillation rather than traditional molasses. Botran uses “dynamic aging” which is a variation of the solera process. For the No. 8, rums aged 5-8 years are blended that have matured in American whiskey and sherry casks.
Notably, Botran has a Protected Denomination of Origin (PDO) and is certified as a Ron de Guatemala. Botran was relaunched in the US in August 2022 with updated packaging. ($19.99/700ml). .

Aged RumRum that is aged, but no specific type or size barrel required. No set time required for length of aging, but will often carry an age statement (which should be taken with a grain of salt). Often thought of as "sipping rums".
Tasting Notes
"The nose is quite dry and tight, not much aroma emitting from the glass. A faint brown sugar sweetness hits the palate along with a note of grapefruit zest and slight herbaceousness, but the overall effect is still quite neutral for an aged rum. The finish is a tad on the bitter side. This is definitely more of a mixing rum than a neat sipper. "
