Ron Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva Rum

The ~40 g/L of sugar is apparent even on the nose. Not an issue for me. Sweet, with a natural spice and obvious barrel influence. Vanilla, molasses, lingering sweetness.

L: Deep amber verging on copper color. Fine crest with plenty of large drops falling slowly. N: Candied orange peel, macchiato, raisins, rich caramelized honey, brown sugar, dried bananas, dried apricots, slightly charred pineapple, vanilla, marzipan. Some baking spices show up with cinnamon, cardamom & cloves. M: Full body, very sweet, slight burn but never aggressive, fine tannins & mild tartness. Pretty similar flavors as the nose but there is a deeper caramel & honey profile. F: Long & lingering on ripe tropical fruits dipped in a hot caramel sauce with orange & lime zested on top. O: I love this rum although I admit having a sweet tooth. I'm all in for unadulterated rum with no sugar added, but this one is a dessert on its own.

Cherry coke for days on the nose, with subtler cherry and molasses on the tongue. Just a slight burn that doesn't linger too long. super pleasant.

Caramelized Flan comes to mind on the first whiff, while soft coconut notes and then the banana notes start to creep up behind the coconut with a slight minty herbal finish on the nose. On the palate, sweet caramel mix well into the almost hot chocolate like liquid that introduces the minty and cinnamon notes at the end that clears my sinuses. Finish is pretty short, but there is a hint of dark chocolate on the tongue that lasts a few seconds before fleeting. The finish is the shortcoming of this wonderfully well made rum, but overall my all time go to rum at the moment.
