Nose: A sweet red wine note and cooked dark fruits with cinnamon. All in all the nose is very reminiscent of a good port wine.
Taste: sweet and fruity arrival. Cinnamon, grapes, caramel and toffee with dark brown sugar hanging over everything. A drop of water reduces the sugar and brings the oak up front.
Finish: surprising long dry finish with citrus and a pleasant oak.
All in all a great bargain for a sipping rum with a distinct fruity wine note. Will buy it again despite being a little bit to much on the sweet side for me.
I think I just don't have a sweet tooth. My 2nd rum. It's sweet. Like southern sweet tea, with an extra helping of sugar. I don't think I got any thyme or citrus. I just got sugar cane and caramel. I had it with ice, and plenty of it. I don't think it's bad...especially considering I paid $26. But I'm sure I could've added a few bucks more and get a Crown Royal Northern rye at $30, and enjoyed it much more.
