Rutte's Oude 5 is distilled from grains and uses juniper and other herbs for flavoring. Aged for 5 years in oak, it has a large proportion of malt-wine giving it a full profile. The wood aging also gives the jenever a light golden color. Note: Not available in the US.

Tasting Notes

"The wood aging comes through on the nose with raw wood and wood spices. The malt wine comes next with juniper and other botanicals coming through eventually. Further inhalations reveal a fruity profile like an apple eau-de-vie. The taste is bittersweet and has more of the raw wood that you found on the nose. Warm spices come through such as cinnamon. Overall the jenever entices you to take more sips with its bittersweet profile and could be used in place of whiskey in an Old Fashioned cocktail."
