Reviewed October 15, 2021 (edited May 4, 2024)Nose: Fresh-cut lawn, sunflower oil, almonds, daisies, balsa-wood, white bread and a hint of citrus. Palate: Light earthy arrival. Semi-sweet with a silky, slightly oily texture that is also oddly a little thin. Mineral and mild seed spice notes (fennel, dill) with a hint of brown sugar and green banana. Finish: Medium/short. Turns a little flinty at the end. I tried the white Sagatiba a while back and enjoyed it, and this aged version is just as nice but with a slightly different profile. There is a lot in common between the two expressions but this adds a very light woody blanket and a light nutty quality to the spirit. Pleasant to sip, but I felt this was never quite “complete” when tasted neat. It does not need much, even just a couple of ice cubes lifts it, but it is when it is mixed that this really gets going. It teams well with pineapple, grapefruit or other citrus juices, and coconut milk. It can be used as a lighter and more refreshing alternative to rum in tiki cocktails but do some experiments before trying it out on your friends, because it does not always work well. It does not team well with cola but it does go with lemonade or tonic water. Mrs Cascode has become partial to this as the base for a pina colada, where it adds some complexity but is not too sweet. “Good” : 83/100 (3.5 stars)55.0 AUD per Bottle -
