Reviewed March 29, 2026 (edited May 16, 2026)What great whiskey. Nose: Sweets galore, powdered sugar donut, Werthers caramel, sweet oak, baking spices and dark dried fruits. Palate: Rich and sweet entry with toffee, caramel, vanilla, baking spices, and the perfect amount of heat. Nice chest hug. Finish: Long, sweet and peppery. I believe this is the third or fourth Stagg Jr bottle I have reviewed and probably the one I liked best. Distiller Review No. 963 -

Reviewed April 13, 2025Late bottle pour, neat, capped and rested for 15 minutes. Nose: molasses, leather, astringency, a fig/fruitcake rich sweetness. Palatte: vanilla and nutmeg, feels hot with the high alcohol %. Finish: long and fire, caramal and creamy. Added water, capped and rested another 15 minutes. Nose: sea salt and bitterness emerged. Palatte: oddly enough felt dry even while in the mouth. Finish: dry and full, much less burn. -

Reviewed February 18, 2025 (edited February 20, 2025)Nose: Dark molasses, vanilla, oak, with a hint of fruit Palate: Vanilla, grape soda, baking spices Finish: Medium to long, a lingering finish that mixes both the sweet and spicy notes This bourbon knows its mission and it does it. As Buffalo Trace's representation of a barrel-proof bourbon, it takes the standard profile and amps it up appropriately. However, does it offer anything more than BT turned up to 11? Not really. However, we have to give credit that Buffalo Trace has mastered the profile they are known for and it shows. -

Reviewed December 20, 2024 (edited June 4, 2025)Another great stagg. This does not have that grape soda note that stagg sometimes has. Its a bit more spicy and big finish.
