Nose: Honey, corn, and the rum flavours showing through in the background
Palate: honey, quite a bit of spices, vanilla
Finish: Sweet finish with some warmth from not just the higher alcohol content, but also the barrel notes.
Before I tried this whiskey, I always thought that grain = cheap. While this blended Irish is the entry-level Teeling, it really redefines what a blended whiskey can be. It costs quite a bit higher than base Jameson, but this is a whole different level. The rum cask really puts an exotic spin on top of a pretty classic base.
I give it 3.25 because the flavour profile are (although well done) not what I like; but it will be rated higher from someone more objective. And a lot of people would LOVE this.
