Three Capes 10 Year Unpeated Single Malt
Single Malt
Three Capes // Tasmania, Australia
This whisky from McHenry's & Sons Distillery represents the distillery's first venture into the whisky scene; they also produce a variety of gins, vodka, and sloe gin. Their distillery also happens to be the most southerly distillery in all of Australia. The grain used to craft this whisky comes from none other than the illustrious Sullivans Cove Distillery also located in Tasmania.
The single malt is matured in ex-American oak bourbon barrels for a guaranteed minimum age of 10 years. It is non-chill filtered and each bottle is labeled with the bottle and barrel number; this review was completed with bottle 154 from barrel #20. Note: Not currently available in the US.

Tasting Notes
"With a sugary sweet opening, the nose quickly turns to oranges, dried apricots and a hay-like quality that drifts softly in the background. Sour spices of nutmeg, cardamom and clove rise up to meet the fruit, with a woody menthol quality reaching towards the end of the nose. A fresh-cleansing, zesty mouthfeel is the first impression on the palate, with sweet & sour fruits and bruised rosewater coming in through sweet grass and a haze of barely ripe blackberries that lend this whisky its tartness. The finish is short and sharp with a prickly sweet and sour tang; crushed fruit collides with menthol and hay for a refreshing finish. "
