Dan Murphys international whisky tasting night. Another blind tasting… N: Deliciously light, gentle honey, fresh lush grass, peaches, yoghurt sourness, fudgey depth and some metallic-minerallty. For such a light and bright nose this has wonderful unravelling depth. P: Beautiful malt turning oily with soft stone fruit sweetness. Barley sugar, sultanas; plump and morish. There are subtler notes of spices and citrus and a delicate salt presence. Fresh wood binds everything together without being overbearing or the main player. F: Medium. Orange, dates, and toffee. Lightly maritime and salty with a touch of drying oak. I think I will need to buy a bottle and come back to this. Really interesting, excellently made and with plenty of character to delve into, yet perfectly approachable enough to quaff. I think I need to go back to Ledaig 10 as well. Notas muy amables, dulces ligeramente, sin llegar a empalagar ni pesar. Notas en nariz a piel de naranja, en boca la parte golosa gana presencia. Uno de los mas ricos que he probado, muy amable.

appearance: color burnished, with many fast moving legs nose: rich, nutty, apricots? vanilla, stewed fruits, apples? berries? salt or brine, honey palate: sweet, malty, tannic, red apples, sugary, cereal finish: "smooth" despite its 46% abv and young-ish age. water brings out more sweetness, but at the same time, makes it less smooth Tobermory had long been on my list of distilleries to try (unfortunately never got to try their old 10 year), so when this showed up, I decided I would buy it, no matter what the cost. Do I like this? Yes! Do I like it enough to justify paying $94? Well...

Im going to start with a controversial statement…..I think this is a better whisky than the Ledaig 10. On the nose it herbal and floral with green apples and pears in the background. Its a great nose and makes me want to keep my nose in the glass to pick out more and more…. On the palate it has a fairly oily mouthfeel. The flavors are herbal with underlying green apple and pear and barley sugar….maybe a bit of kiwi in there too. A good balance of herbal and sweet that makes it very moreish. If you see this pick it up!!
