Vat 69 // Scotland
This blended whisky was created by William Sanderson of Leith, Scotland back in 1882. As the story goes, 100 different vattings of whisky were created and judged by whisky experts. The 69th vatting was selected as the best. Fans of the mini-series, Band of Brothers, may recall Captain Nixon drowning his sorrows with a bottle of Vat 69.
BlendedComprised of both single malt(s) and single grain(s) often from many different distilleries; if Scotch or Irish must be aged for at least three years in oak barrels; Irish may include single pot still whiskey in the blend.
"The nose shows caramel, lemon zest, and soft wood spices. The palate has a touch of menthol and cinnamon and there's an average malty quality and body to the whisky, not too rich, not too thin. The finish is dry, but soft. Though you wouldn't necessarily write home about this blended whisky, it is serviceable."
