Virginia Distillery Co. Port Cask Finished Virginia-Highland Whisky

Nose of oak, gun powder, black pepper, port, vanilla, pencil eraser and red hots. Oily and sweet; flavors of burnt caramel, vanilla, black pepper, chocolate, apple and wood. Quite rich and sweet. Peppery and sweet finish.

There are some port aromas. Dark grape dark cherry. Hints of wood. Orange comes into the aroma after the first sip. Flavors tend more toward leather and then a slightly sweet but more burnt caramel. Finishes with decent heat.

I bought the small airplane bottle to try. It is very sharp. Leaves a burning sensation on my tongue. Had to put some water with it after 4 sips to tone it down. Has a very heavy tobacco smell on the nose. It was better after the water but still would not be my first choice.
