Delectable, delightful and delicious. A perfect marriage of distillation and aging showcased in a high-proof and venerable spirit. The nose alone will tantalize your senses with heavenly notes of caramel, cocoa, vanilla, and sweet roll. The flavor is compact and intense with even more sweetness. Caramel corn, pecan pie, fresh pipe tobacco and baking spices all come into play in an ever shifting landscape of flavor. The finish is long and has elements of pfeffernusse, molasses and mellow smokiness. This whiskey is a real treat and shows just how masterful the distiller’s skills truly are. We could enjoy a pour of this every night.
Widow Jane 15 Year Vaults
Tasted this blind, knowing nothing about it other than friend that gave me this pour highly recommended it.
This proves once again spirits are subjective.
BLIND THOUGHTS: Dickel in the background pops up briefly and then disappears upon each sip
It did satisfy the mouth feel as seemed to be possibly a higher proof & NCF as the oils, the slight haze, were apparent.
Over all there was nothing that I said WOW about – but nothing that I could say was negative either.
AFTER READING ABOUT IT
2021 I could not easily find the source, however 2020 states Tennessee and Indiana
It is NCF so was correct about that
However the proof was in my opinion low as compared to how it drank…meaning it drank hotter that I feel it should of.
Neither the Dickel or the MGP really shined – the 2 blended together were maybe the best barrels their Master Distiller selected to blend – either proving they do not have truly great barrels or the Master Distiller & I do not agree upon what is a great drinking whiskey.
Either way because of mouthfeel and drinkability I would have a tough time rating this lower than a 3.75/ 5 but at the same time a hard time rating it at 4/5 as that is normally my threshold to buy
With that said if I do not have to buy a bottle of this I can say its 4/5
If you do not like Dickel = a definite pass
If you are a huge MGP fan = a definite pass if you are looking for a whiskey that is representative of traditional MGP because it is not
If you want to try a pour at a bar or a friends house worth trying NOT BUYING!!!!
Cheers all
Light nose with aroma of cereal. Looking at this widow she’s clearly a fine shade of amber like a really nice early grey tea.
The first sip the mouth feel is impeccable, the grains shine through with flavors of toasted oats, mixed with black pepper and coffee. The finish is slightly nutty turning to toasted oak.

First pour from the bottle! 3oz neat in a NEAT glass.
Nose presents lots of leather and dry wood, with very slight menthol and cherry. (Looking forward to this opening up more now that the bottle is open).
Palate offers tons of vanilla and leather and wood spice.
Finish is medium and keeps the leathery wood spice going.
