Wigle's Walkabout Apple Whiskey
Flavored Whiskey
Wigle // Pennsylvannia, USA
Johnny "Appleseed" Chapman had Pittsburgh roots, as does Wigle Whiskey. So, the distillery decided to pay homage to Johnny Appleseed with an apple whiskey.
Distilled from a four-grain mash bill with 39% winter wheat, 26% Wapsie Valley corn, 19% rye and 16% malted barley, the whiskey is aged in new, charred oak barrels with applewood staves inside. The real magic though comes post-aging, when the whiskey is proofed down not with water, but with all-natural Pennsylvania apple cider.

Tasting Notes
"The whiskey has a clouded cidery appearance and the matching thick mouthfeel. On the nose, find apple sauce, dry oak, rye spice, and fresh apples. The palate offers corn, apple cider, a rich char-like sweetness, more rye spiciness, and grain. The finish is short and sweet, with cinnamon and baking spices. Add an ice cube, and a sweeter yet profile emerges, showcasing apple-cinnamon crumble cake. A high quality "flavored" whiskey that doesn't overstep with one-note, artificial sweetness."
