Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Bourbon

Vanilla and toffee/caramel on the nose. Sweet vanilla and brown sugar at first, followed by rich spice and pleasant heat. Smoke and charred oak starts the finish, which is moderate and tailors off with more vanilla/brown sugar.

Keep in mind I’m more of a scotch guy, but this one really impressed me. Nose: brown sugar cinnamon, a sinus opening almost menthol/minty refresh feeling on the back of the nose. Not mint but that same refreshing feeling you get from smelling mint. Rounded all off by heavy barrel spice (not rye spice, but barrel tannins) Taste: Nice strong punch of spicy brown sugar. Cinnamon and vanilla dominate the mid pallet. Long lingering finish reminds me of a either a heavy vanilla bean ice cream, or creme brûlée’s. I’ve never been a fan of the original wild turkey, but the barrel strength proof obviously takes those flavors of the mash bill and amps them up to a new level. For the price of $47 this is definitely one I’ll come back to after I finish this bottle. Excellent.

Just damn enjoyable....a ton of flavor, the right amount of heat, and the taste that has made WT such a popular brand. If you’re reading these tasting reviews wondering if you should buy a bottle, run away from your computer and go get one! For $45-$50, this is a no brainer......12 year old Bourbon in the blend and zero dilution. If you live somewhere that doesn’t have it, then move! Just kidding, but I will always have a bottle of RB open at my house, Lord willing : )

Has that expected wild turkey spice to it, but despite its high proof has a unique sweet note to it that balances out that 116 proof. The sweetness is very vanilla focused, and over a cube of ice this is a great drink to enjoy for the better part of an hour.

Spicy mint and oak to start. Long finish with notes of melted butter and vanilla. Lingers on the palate.
