Reviewed January 2, 2021 (edited March 19, 2022)Don’t know all that much about rye, but this is the best I’ve ever had. smells beautiful like a walk in the woods, much sweeter than its proof. Palate soft and sweet, alcohol playing the baseline but never overpowering -

Reviewed December 24, 2020 (edited May 22, 2021)Barrel no. 15A2020A-Very green on the nose—I pick up fresh green apple and white pepper. Dill or pickling spice and caramel notes, which sounds weird but somehow it works. Clean, quick, herbal, and dry finish. -

Reviewed December 18, 2020 (edited December 1, 2022)Barrel No. 15D17 Purchased in Louisville at Liquor Barn Open 4 weeks Nose - Butterscotch, toffee, nutmeg, clove, orange rind, leather, medium oak and ethanol. Palate - Butterscotch candy, chocolate covered caramel, orange blossom honey, rye spice, oak. Medium finish with dense syrupy flavors mixed with rye spices and oak. This is the best rye I've had to date. It hits all the right notes of a barely legal rye and surpasses Pikesville, Knob Creek Single Barrel Rye, and WT Rare Breed Rye with its richness of more syrupy notes common in higher abv barrel proof bourbons. The difference between this and those other awesome rye whiskeys is less astringency and tannins from rye and oak. I think the barrel entry proof of 100 and the estimated youthful age of ~4 years have a lot to do with this, considering the rye content is only 56% here. It's honestly a phenomenal whiskey and I'm on the lookout for anything Wilderness Trail. Fantastic bottle too, beefy synthetic cork and rectangular shape are perfect for reusing as a decanter or infinity bottle.62.99 USD per Bottle -

Reviewed December 14, 2020 (edited December 31, 2020)So this is a tough one to review. My first taste of this whiskey was at Justin’s House of Bourbon in Louisville and I was blown away with the balance of sweetness and rye mixture. I immediately needed to get a bottle and my friend surprised me with one. So now I have a whiskey that was amazing and cost me nothing, could you ask for more? Unfortunately when I opened the bottle it’s still very good but not the epic version I had in Kentucky. It’s got this nice toasted marshmallow, pumpernickel bread, canned peaches, caramel and cinnamon on the nose with a creamy mouthfeel that has tastes of caramel flan with very light rye. The finish is very short that hits quick with alcohol burn, then comes with rye, licorice, charred oak and vanilla. I was in awe with the bottle in Kentucky, but this one I kept hoping some oxidation would bring it to the legendary one I had before. Sadly it never achieved that level and I have finished the bottle. I guess that’s what happens with single barrel releases and has me loving and hating them at the same time. So how to rate this with one being a 3.5 and the other a 4.5, guess I’ll just hit the middle ground with a 4.
