Quite relaxed for a rye. Sits a bit further back in the mix and allows a nice blending of flavors rather than a super intense experience. Doesn’t work as well in cocktails because of it, but neat it is excellent. I prefer spicy, earthy ryes, but the way this flips my preferences on their head and still manages to be excellent is still great.
Candied apple and peanuts on the nose with hay and toffee. Smells like a carnival…and a lot like bourbon. Palate carries the sweetness forward with leather and oak and a rush of cinnamon and mild barnyard on the short finish. The nose may be the best part of this one.
Since im still new on the bourbon journey inhad this in an old fashion with a cherry and woodford aromatic bitters. I twnd tonlike these smooth ryes more than the hit you in the face ryes. So i really enjoyed this one. Smooth and easy to drink. Very little lip burn and flavor going down the back end.
