Nikka Whisky From the Barrel
Blended — Japan

Somehow this is simultaneously schizophrenic, and easy to drink. It comes across a bit like someone mixed a little of each of my bourbon, rye, and malt infinity bottles, but then it somehow worked. I can pick out elements of corn, rye, malt, even peat. The nose shows orange peel, caramel, cinnamon, slightly smoky wood. The palate seems to hit first with the bourbony caramel and vanilla, but then morphs into scotch flavors with malty, apple, honey, nuts and then a little spice. There's a little tobacco, oak, and the finish shows a hint of peat smoke.
This is a really interesting whisky with some twists and turns, but it's also super easy to sip without trying to pick it apart. It's a winner for me.

One of my faves, and I agree with your notes. I wish it was $57 around here! More like $75-80, unfortunately. It got very scarce around here shortly after it wone Whisky of the Year a few years back, but is now fairly available in my neck of the woods.
@soonershrink😂
@angstrom yes, quite the shapeshifter. I'm not into anime, but I'm certain someone will know the Japanese version of the skin-walker.
This is a total shapeshifter. If you have a bottle, each pour tastes slightly different. This one is a real winner.
