Angel's Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels

Bourbon — Kentucky, USA

Reviewed July 15, 2023 (edited September 23, 2024)

Okay this is a decent finished bourbon but its overrated imo. Port adds some nice dark fruit notes but they are subdued. This is mainly said fruit with lotsa oak closing in on bitter in the finish. Sure you can tease out some standard bourbon vanilla caramel but flavors overall are lacking depth. There is nothing really off here, its a pleasant pour that newish drinkers will pump the tires on. I think seasoned whiskey lovers will be bored at the price point. Glad I finally tried a bottle(after reading hype) but would not buy again.........81/100

The Single Barrel Picks are much better @ around 110'ish proof, but they come at a premium of around $90.

@Ctrexman spot-on. I hadn't seen this review until now, but I just finished writing one a few minutes ago which syncs with yours.

@taylore I would take anything by Michters, anything in the Old Forester whiskey Row series, ER10 ,RR10 many others over Angels. It got better as I went through the bottle but no way I would ever purchase again

what do you think is a better buy at the ~$40–45 price point today?
