Blanton's Original Single Barrel
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA

It has been nearly 4 and 1/2 years since I first reviewed Blanton’s single barrel. In between then and now, I finished my first bottle, which was fabulous and finished a second bottle which was middling. Unfortunately, I did not note the rick house location of that first bottle. The second bottle was from a lower rick house and just middling. Just now opened a bottle dumped 1-29-24, barrel 1921, rick no. 24 and it is just as fabulous as my first bottle.
Nose: Orange marmalade and baking spices.
Palate: Semisweet, slick, coating, baking spices, orange slices, and cherry notes.
Finish: Medium length with baking spices, orange and cherry.
It’s straight forward and uncomplicated, but oh so good!

Bottle kill. Such a nice bottle. It moved toward more rye and more baking spices at the end. I bumped a 1/4 point.
@jdriip I believe that is correct. Something like 92 vs. 100+ proof
@Bourbonk the Gold is still a single barrel, just higher proof, right?
A friend and his brother and I got together a couple months ago for a tasting. Among the ones we tried were Blanton's SiB and Gold. We all agreed, that this Single Barrel blew away the Gold which is like at least $100 more.
@jdriip would be interesting to see where in that warehouse good bottles can come from. Because you're right the do have good barrels! But they have so many awful ones too.
@dhsilv2 of course taste is subjective, but this bottle of Blanton’s was like nectar of the gods to me. Previous bottle not so much. In fact most of it was used in old fashioneds. I suspect that rick house placement plays a large role in how good a bottle of Blanton’s might be.
Wow insane score for this! I have had 2-3 pours of Blantons I'd consider 2-2.5 for. Sadly the last 2 I bought were diet coke mixers at best. I really love buffalo trace picks and enjoy eagle rare ones. I don't get why Blantons so consistently misses the mark for me so badly.
