According to a quick Google search, this is the best selling whiskey in Scotland. Is there wisdom in the crowd? Let’s see.
Of the Grouse offerings, I’ve only had this, and the naked malt. But they both have this crazy, intense, malty, vanilla, caramel, baking spices and Manuka honey on the nose, which I find super appealing. Easy entry on the palate. It’s somewhat viscous with more honey and vanilla and a hint of smoke, barley and berries . Finish is somewhat short with some spices arriving late.
Keeping in mind that this is an inexpensive blend, I say the crowd is wise. Nothing wrong with this. In fact, I find many things right with this whiskey. And combined with Disaronno, this makes a fantastic Godfather mixed drink.

@jdriip FWIW the other blends I usually buy are Dewars 12 (White Label is OK but for a little extra the 12 is better), Ballantine's 12 (again, better than Ballantine's Finest), and occasionally Cutty Sark if I want something very light-bodied, or Bells (but it is very batch variable, ranging from pretty awful to acceptable). 20 years ago I bought mostly Teachers Highland Cream, but it was good back then and terrible now. I'll buy a bottle of almost any blended scotch at least once to see what it is like, but most are not worth repeat purchase. Occasionally I'll buy a more expensive blend like Dewars 15, Johnnie Double Black, Compass Box Glasgow Blend etc. but because I drink blended scotch exclusively with ice and lots of Coke or dry ginger ale it's not worth spending a lot for what is essentially whisky flavouring.
@jdriip Well as a matter of fact it’s about to be Famous Grouse, which I bought yesterday 😃. I’m right at the end of a Johnny Walker Red and I had a Loch Lomond Reserve lined up but decided to check out the FG instead 👍
@cascode what is your current Scotch blend in rotation?
@jdriip I always have a bottle of everyday blended scotch in the house and I buy several brands in rotation, but it's 7 years since I last tasted Famous Grouse, so it must be its turn soon. Last time I rated it on the low side of average so it will be interesting to see what it's like in 2024. It sounds like it's currently better than it was in 2017. For all the talk of blended scotch being about consistency there is still variation between batches ... sometimes a lot.
