Redbreast Lustau Edition

Single Pot Still — Ireland

Reviewed January 1, 2026 (edited January 22, 2026)

Haven't had an Irish in quite a while. My first from Redbreast gifted by my lovely wife for my birthday. Not a bad choice either. Most of my experience in this category lay with the Mitchell distillery and all of their colored Spots which are all solid. The nose on this contained a sweet fruit and oak character which was inviting. The sipping experience started off a tad spicy, but calmed almost immediately. The flavors yielded notes of dark fruit from the sherry casks up front. Later I was able to distinguish caramel, honey, and wet oak. The finish was fairly long. Nothing too complex, but definitely a valid competitor in the Irish pot stilling landscape. A great daily.

@christianc Agreed. I was surprised as well. This was very pleasant overall. @richard-davenport Yes! This was very good. I wasn't aware of their quality and attention to detail. I need to dive deeper into their lineup now that you mentioned that. Thank you for your insight.

I was not a fan of the 12yo, but I was positively surprised by this one. Still very spicy, but it fades away quickly, without hiding the other notes.

@Spirited_Away I love this Irish Whiskey. Redbreast is doing these different releases the right way--not marketing hype, but bottling that are meaningful and fit into the portfolio long-term.
