Tomatin 15 Year 43% (Discontinued)
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland

Appearance: The color of this Scottish fifteen year old is a light straw or white corn color. It is very light for a whisky so old, which leads me to think (though their website doesn’t say) that no artificial coloring is added. The legs too, looking at them in my glass are very thin and watery.
Nose: The first impression of the nose is very fruity. Notes of pear, green grapes, and pineapple are present as well as salty brine, light peat smoke, and pine needles. With a splash of water added the nose becomes more (and I would say “too) flowery.”
Taste: The palate boasts sweet notes of orange, dry red wine, red apples, and salted almonds. After a splash of water the other notes blend into notes of honey and Sweetarts candy.
Finish: There is a medium long finish with an orange citrus aftertaste and a bite before adding any water.
Thoughts: This was a delicious and incredibly friendly dram! I loved the higher ABV of 43% and think Tomatin made a great choice there. I would not recommend adding water as it ruined the subtleties of other notes throughout the whisky. To anyone wanting a friendly drink and doesn’t want a fight, this is your dram! (If you can find it; unfortunately it’s discontinued.) Tomatin, thank you friends! Sláinte!

I guess I’ll never find this, but I do like what Tomatin has been up to lately.
@The_Rev - oh, now that sounds interesting. I actually have lots of samples poured and I’m looking to get some trade talks started. Email me when you get time: [email protected]
Glad you were able to find some of this, @MountainRoot! I'll have to go check and see if there's still that one last bottle of this on the shelf at my local backwater liquor store where I found it a while back. @LeeEvolved, if you want a sample of this, I have a bottle open and am happy to share.
@1901 and @LeeEvolved , thank you very much for the feedback gentlemen! I enjoyed this dram a lot, and am bummed too that it's discontinued, but I'm comforted with the knowledge there are plenty of amazing whiskies still out there. Cheers!
Great review: you describe it well and I think would enjoy this one. The orange citrus finish sounds appealing. Pity it's discontinued. I checked my main local shop and it's flagged as out of stock.
I found a bottle of this awhile back and have avoided opening it because of the rarity and the fact I wasn’t sure how well it would perform with a healthy age statement. It’s probably worth more in a collection than it is on an open bar. Your review backs that up. Well done, cheers.
