Bourbon Breakdown: Russell’s Reserve Bourbon

September 3, 2021

As we mentioned in our breakdown of Wild Turkey bourbon, there is no way to talk about the brand without talking about Jimmy & Eddie Russell. The father-and-son duo are the Master Distillers for Wild Turkey and together have over 100 years of experience in the industry. Naturally there’s a line of bourbon and rye whiskeys named after them. Indeed, each bottle will bear the signatures of both Jimmy and Eddie.

Below is a breakdown of the Russell’s Reserve Bourbon whiskeys along with a brief tasting note and our Distiller’s Community Ratings. This way you can make an informed decision the next time you’re ready to make a bourbon purchase.

Other Russell’s Reserve Bottlings to Know

Russell’s Reserve 13 Year Bourbon

This expression was just released in June 2021 in celebration of Eddie’s 40 years in distilling. Matured for at least 13 years, the bourbon is bottled at barrel proof and is non-chill filtered.

Of course we would be remiss if we didn’t mention that the Russell’s Reserve portfolio also has a couple of ryes to enjoy. There’s a 6 year-old rye bottled at 90 proof as well as a Single Barrel Rye which comes in at 104 proof. Moreover, each of these ryes are made with a low-rye mash bill, so if you’re looking for just a little more spice than these bourbon offerings, give these two a try.
