The Best Rums from Puerto Rico

Released in 2011, and signed with the Bacardi seal 'El Ron del Murciélago' (the rum of the bat), Oakheart rum is Bacardi's latest foray into the spiced rum category. It is aged in heavily charred oak before being filtered. Spices are then added and it is bottled at 70 proof.

Mutually developed by model/Miami club promoter Rande Gerber and sixth generation distiller Roberto Serralles, Caliche is a super-premium white rum from Puerto Rico. The charcoal filtration process removes the color from what is actually a blend of rums from 3-5 years old, along with some solera-aged rum. The result is a smooth white rum with enough bite to stand up in classic cocktails.

To coincide with the 150th anniversary of Destilería Serrallés, Don Q relaunched its 151 rum, which had been discontinued for several years. This addition to the Don Q product line is notable for being only the second overproof rum released by a Puerto Rican distillery. The Don Q 151 is a blend of light and dark rums aged a minimum of three years in used American oak barrels.

Don Q is a popular Puerto Rican brand with a large line and wide variety of rums. Their Gran Añejo contains a blend of rums aged between 3 and 12 years and Solera rums aged up to 20 years.

Havana Club Añejo Blanco is aged for 1 year in oak before being blended and filtered. It is then aged a further 2 months in oak for mellowing. This Puerto Rican distilled rum made by Bacardí is based on a recipe from the Arechabala family who created it in Cuba in 1934. The family produced it up until 1960 when they fled Cuba after Fidel Castro nationalized the distilleries there. First available in select Florida markets in June 2016, the rum became available soon after in other markets.

Don Q Oak Barrel Spiced Rum is a dry, spiced rum aged between 3 to 6 years and naturally flavored with vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove. Released in early 2017, it is bottled at 45% ABV without added artificial coloring or flavoring.

First released to the public in 2003 at the Bacardi Visitors Center in Puerto Rico, Bacardi Reserva Limitada slowly became available in some Caribbean countries before being introduced in limited quantities in the United States in 2010. This "Founder's Reserve" was created as the personal blend for the Bacardi family and contains a blend of aged rums up to 12 years old. Note: A packaging update was given to this bottling in spring 2018.

A blend of rums aged between 7 and 23 years, Facundo Exquisito is then finished for a month in sherry casks. This super-premium offering from Bacardi is one of four rums in the Facundo line, which are named after Bacardi Chairman Facundo L. Bacardi, the great-grandson of Bacardi founder Don Facundo Bacardi Masso.
