Water needed to calm it down straight out of the bottle, though the uncut is not unpalatable. Still, a few drops cots down the raw alcohol and allows the actual flavors to shine. Not a strong nose, with mostly corn and a little oak. The palate is pleasantly warm with the sweet corn and a hint of spice present near the front of the tongue. There's a purity of taste here, unclouded by distracting strains. Some light spice on the finish that is easily masked by the heat if you don't water it down enough. On the flip side, it's a pretty simple whiskey with only the couple of notes keeping the path throughout. Clearly the price tag is for rarity only.

Wilderness Trail Bottled in Bond Small Batch Bourbon (High Rye Bourbon)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 13, 2021Nose has corn, reminding of how it smells freshly harvested on the farm. Some light honey. The palate is broadly sweet too, with almost no burn in the finish. Very drinkable and leaves a medium sweetness in the mouth. Not complex, but an easy sipper. I might get bored with it after a while, but a pleasant dram. -
Wilderness Trail Bottled in Bond Single Barrel Bourbon (Wheated Bourbon)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 13, 2021Mild corn on the nose, blandly so, almost. Higher proof gives this one more of a bit. You can feel the higher proof in the mouth but it doesn't bring any complexity of flavor. While nothing wrong with it, there's just not a whole lot to write home about. -
This meeds to spend some time in the glass for for the flavor profile to open up. While not an overly complex scotch, the floral and grain of the base spirit serves as a rewarding foundation to house the sherry finish, which provides a generic sweetness and pleasant aftertaste. The finish is a classic Highland flavor panorama as the sherry fades into wildflowers and heather. A great value for those wanting to explore Highland single malts.
