Lagavulin Distillers Edition
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 10, 2020 (edited April 11, 2020)Raisins apricots and gentle peat on the nose. To me it’s a bit more muted on the nose than the regular 16. On the palate a bit more raisin and a great coating mouthfeel. Smoke but not ashy more grilled meat like. Finish is medium and absolutely no burn. Just a great overall whiskey. Cheers! -
Laphroaig Càirdeas 2017 Cask Strength Quarter Cask Edition
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 10, 2020 (edited February 18, 2020)Damn I like this one. Smoke honey and vanilla on the nose. Enters with a punch of Bbq and ash. Fades into a gentle honey sweetness with a kick of white pepper at the end. Long finish with a tobacco ash ending. -
Laphroaig Càirdeas 2018 Fino Cask Finish
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 10, 2020 (edited September 21, 2020)Not as smoky as other laphroaigs on the nose. A bit of the sherry like influence on the nose also. Palate seems thin to me. Smoke doesn’t overpower this one. It is present but with richness and sweetness as the main player to me. Finish is medium with pepper and flora notes. The more I drink the more chili pepper notes I get on the finish. The first time a tried this bottle I wasn’t a fan because of the sweetness. While it still isn’t my favorite laphroaig I’ll bump my rating to a 4.0 on this dram. Wouldn’t buy another bottle but not mad I have this one. -
Plantation Original Dark Double Aged Rum
Dark Rum — Multiple Countries
Reviewed February 10, 2020 (edited February 18, 2020)A nice sipping rum. While I’m fairly new to rums and usually a whiskey guy this was quite pleasant. Not overly sweet like some of the more aged rums I’ve tried. For the price it’s worth a pickup -
Stagg Jr Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch 13
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed February 7, 2020 (edited February 15, 2020)More heat than batch twelve. Typical super proofed Buffalo Trace taste. -
Glenfiddich Fire & Cane
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed February 6, 2020 (edited March 4, 2021)Classic glenfiddich nose with a slight peaty smoke note. Palate is light on the entry and then comes the smoked meat flavors. Like most peated scotch this one sticks around for awhile on the backend. I really enjoy this. It’s prolly not for everyone but the nice sweetness of the rum finish and smoke of the peat make it a interesting dram none the less. Cheers! -
Hancock's President's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 5, 2020 (edited March 29, 2020)Nose is light. Almost no alcohol burn. Light vanilla and caramel classic mashbill number 2 notes. Thin mouthfeel but good taste. Classic bourbon notes. Some citrus and rye. Medium to short finish with some oak and caramel. Bit of cinnamon. Overall it’s a mediocre bourbon from Buffalo Trace distillery. It’s a fine home bar bottle but not worth the secondary prices at all.50.0 USD per Bottle
