Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C917
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 4, 2020 (edited September 22, 2020)So originally I bought this after having the B517 that won whiskey of the year. That was an amazing drink. When I first opened this it was too hot for me too deal with and kinda got pushed to the back of the cabinet. Well I found it tonight and I gotta tell you it has found life. The nose is packed with caramel and brown sugar. Kinda a cherry pie thing going on. On the palate all the heat is gone with just an intense mouthfeel. Not in a bad way but just exploding with flavor. Intense oak and vanilla. Finish is long now with more oak and cinnamon. I’m very glad I went back to this as I’m sure I’ll now finish the bottle in short order. Cheers! -
George Dickel 13 Year Bottled in Bond Tennessee Whisky (Fall 2005)
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed February 28, 2020 (edited April 9, 2020)So I could never place where so many of the bourbons and whiskeys I didn’t like were sourced. I now know it’s Dickel. I always said the scent was peanuts but upon reading more reviews it’s the flint stones vitamin note. This whiskey packs an amazing punch of char and oak flavor. The finish is fairly long and it’s not thin at all. Unfortunately that dang vitamin note is what I get the most. I will give credit that it is done well and for those that don’t ever get the Dickel vitamin note you will most likely love it. -
Kinda weird nose on this one. I get oak which is expected in a bourbon this old but also get a tinge if pineapple. Thin palate with dominating oak. Cinnamon and vanilla come out note on the back end. Finish is a bit sour. Overall had much higher hopes for this. Wouldn’t buy a bottle and may turn down a drink. Cheers!

Willett Pot Still Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 26, 2020 (edited January 24, 2021)On the nose I get wood and apple tarts. It’s quite delightful. Palate brings a wave of oak with a dash of pepper. Has an earthy note I can’t quite place. It’s not hot. Every sip i take brings the nose back to the forefront. It smells older than it is. Finish is medium and very oak dominant. I’ve had this bourbon before and didn’t much care for it. This time around I find it quite good. It’s nothing new or fancy and it’s not worth over retail but it’s a cool bottle for your home bar. Cheers! -
Jefferson's Ocean Aged at Sea Voyage 15 Special Wheated Mash Bill
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed February 26, 2020 (edited August 19, 2021)Nose produces a bit to much ethanol. Oak and a bit of caramel. Decent legs as it runs around the glass. A bit harsh on the palate. Hot with black pepper. Finish is short with a bit of a sour wood taste. Overall it’s rough around the edges and I wouldn’t pick up a bottle of this. -
Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt
Blended Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed February 24, 2020 (edited December 22, 2020)Orange and peach come through hard on the nose. Some muted honey on there as well. Quite coating on the mouth. Biscuits and malt with fruit come through on the palate. Finish is medium and a bit ethanol-y. It’s pretty good for the price. I usually have a bottle on hand for guests that want a cheap scotch. Cin Cin! -
Ok so here we go with another. I get mostly vanilla and light praline on the nose. Some honey and caramel vanilla on the palate. A bit of ethanol creeps in on the back end. It’s a quick finish with cocoa powder and honey. I wouldn’t buy another bottle and may or may not pass on a drink depending on what else was available. Iechyd da!

On the nose this smells very reminiscent of a bourbon. Lots of baking spices but also some strawberry. Like most of compass box’s main line it’s a bit thin. Tastes like holiday baking spices. More cinnamon and nutmeg. Finish is medium with more baking spice. There is zero alcohol burn with this one. Overall it’s quite good. It’s a maybe buy a bottle if it’s a good price but don’t turn down a drink! Cheers!

Prunes and dried fruit on the nose. Agree that it’s a very sherried nose. A bit thin, legs run quickly. Color reminds me of Budweiser. Honey on the palate and it’s quite intense for the proof. Not harsh just a decent amount going on. Finish is medium with more stewed fruits and raisins. Overall a decent dram. Got this as a gift in a compass box set. Wouldn’t buy a bottle but wouldn’t turn down a drink either. Prost!
