Redneck Riviera Whiskey
Blended American Whiskey — USA
Reviewed August 28, 2022 (edited November 27, 2022)Passable as a mixer but lacks any real flavor and mouthfeel. I would pass on this, just happened to be what a friend had at a party and I tried it. -
Jack Daniel's Triple Mash
Blended American Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed July 24, 2022 (edited July 28, 2022)I really didn’t care much for this. It’s pretty average whisky but had a strong almond note on the palate and finish that was outputting to me. Not overly hot or cheap tasting just that almond note I didn’t love. Cheers -
I had higher hopes for this as I liked the 15 year. The nose is quite great. Fresh berries and apricots. The palate has none of that and is slightly peaty but feels disjointed. It has a musty quality that doesn’t sit right with me. The finish is short and a bit oaky and swampy. The peat in this isn’t heavy but it just isn’t very good. I liked the 15 year way better maybe because it isn’t peated. I will have to revisit. Overall I feel like this just doesn’t know what it wants to be. It’s not horrible just not great at all. Cheers!

Macallan Fine Oak 10 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed January 17, 2022 (edited January 20, 2022)Better than I expected based on the reviews. Finish goes on for a decent amount of time with raspberries and oak. Spicier than most macallans. Not upset I opened this bottle that has been sitting in the back of my cabinet. It’s thin and a bit young on the palate but it’s a ten year so you know what your getting. Cheers! -
Elijah Craig 18 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 15, 2021 (edited May 2, 2022)Ok so still working through the Covid nose but I get heavy char and oak with a hint of Covid. With I could explain that better but it’s a weird smell. The palate on this is thin for the age. It is very oaky and almost sour on the back end. I expected more out of this honestly. This is a 2018 bottle that has been open about six months and is half full. The finish is pretty lengthy but kind of goes toward the sour oak note. I have had other years and remember liking them more. I have had many better high end bourbons. It’s a good proof and I don’t think it would benefit from higher proofing. I think the 12 year barrel proof is just the sweet spot for EC. I wouldn’t mind trying say a 15 year from them at say 98 proof. Overall it’s a good bourbon that is over oaked. It’s not bad it’s just not spectacular in any way. It’s a bucket list check mark for me and another cork to add to the collection. Cheers! -
Evan Williams Eggnog
Other Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 15, 2021 (edited December 19, 2024)How this gets anything lower than five is beyond me. It’s egg nog with whiskey and done very well. Yes if you make your own it is better, this however with a dash of nutmeg and a cinnamon stick and it’s Christmas. Having a glass while watching Home Alone with the kids. Merry Christmas! -
Aberlour A'bunadh
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed October 18, 2021 (edited December 29, 2021)Ok so Covid nose keeps me from doing many of these but let docs orders I have been nosing a peated scotch, highland scotch, a rye and a bourbon every night. The same ones every night trying to get a normal smell back. I actually think it’s slowly working. So I pulled this bottle out that I opened before covid. I won’t give nose info because it honestly just has a scotchy smell to me but that’s improvement from smelling like ass. It’s an aggressive scotch being very spicy at first sip. Alcohol comes through quickly but isn’t super harsh as I am a fan of high proof bourbon. This thing then settles into raisins and berries. It’s like a scotch smoothie with just a hint of peppery spice on the finish. Finish is very long for a scotch to me. I really like this and really really liked it pre covid. I know this review won’t help many with choice or not to buy but I really like it and I figure I might as well write about my problems in case anyone else has same issues. Cheers -
Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Ellen
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed October 4, 2021 (edited September 22, 2022)Ok so I received this bottle as a gift for a work anniversary. I then opened two years later as a celebration of a new job. Covid has taken my ability to nose whiskey properly but most peated stuff still hits some marks. From what I can tell it’s faint peat in the nose. Mouthfeel is exceptional. Very slight peat nothing like Lagavulin 16. It’s extremely refined and very elegant. Grains come through on the palate but in a good way. This is miles ahead of standard blue. Finish is spicy and lasts quite awhile for a JW product. Being that I’m still working back my smell and taste from the Rona I can’t actually guarantee what I’m saying. This is far and away though the best dram I’ve had since Covid and I think my taste is pretty much back. If you get a chance to try this I wouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger. Cheers! -
New Amsterdam Pink Whitney
Flavored Vodka — USA
Reviewed September 24, 2021 (edited September 4, 2023)Ok so I’m a whiskey drinker who likes his dram neat. This however is quite delightful over ice. Covid has made most bourbons and scotch taste and smell horrible. I have since switched to vodka and tried this over ice and it was better than expected. If you are used to drinking any spirits neat this will not be hot at all. My wife tried it and complained it was too sweet but I think my taste is still muted. Anyway for ten bucks it tastes great. Cheers!
