Booker's Bourbon Batch 2017-04 Sip Awhile
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 5, 2021 (edited May 27, 2022)Really like how much wood this pour gives off in nose and finish - it drinks hot and spicy with the spearmint and cinnamon at first but cools off and gives way to the vanilla, caramel, and more big woody notes on the back end. Long finish that is comprised of more woody notes than just Oak which is interesting and appreciated.69.0 USD per BottleHill Top Liquor -
Balcones Texas Single Malt Single Barrel
American Single Malt — Texas, USA
Reviewed March 17, 2020 (edited January 21, 2021)Sweet, spicy, deep, malty... best way to describe this is chewing tobacco marinated in Dr. Pepper! -
Probably the best values Islay Single Malt there is... it competes with Laga for me, at least. And at 1/3rd the price! The peat and medicinal iodine jump out of the glass but uncover more maritime aromas that are accompanied by sugar dusted lemon bars - it took a long time to pick out the smell of lemon bars, but now I can’t NOT smell it in this whisky. Very mellow at first with sweetness, a touch of lemon, and the maritime/seaweed flavors following up the palate. Medicinal and Peat linger for a long drawn out finish. Not the most depth from a Laphy but it’s bold and it brings everything you know & love from Islay.

Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 30, 2019 (edited August 5, 2019)This is great bourbon. It’s sweet, vanilla nose leads straight into a smooth pallet that ends with a spicy cinnamon finish. Really tastes like a 100 proof in such a good way.39.0 USD per Bottle -
Deerhammer American Single Malt
American Single Malt — Colorado, USA
Reviewed May 21, 2019 (edited September 9, 2020)This was better than I was expecting - only rating on first taste, however. Felt that this was very ‘baking spice’ forward with dates/raisins in the back end. It had a very spice forward flavor at the start (very smooth) with the sweeter raisin notes coming through on the back end. One of the best COLORADO whiskies I ha e had - better than Stranahans, no doubt! -
Butterscotch, leather and Orange are spot on ways to describe the nose of this bourbon - very little bite but produces the same flavor profile on the backend. I would say this lacks mid and finishing flavors but presents itself very strong up front. Few drops of water is all it need to open up. Not as hot as Bookers (which I don’t consider to be that hot anyways) and prefer the complexity of Bookers but this is not a bad offshoot to explore.14.0 USD per PourCoronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa

Great high proof bourbon - not as hot as Stagg Jr. but every bit as complex. Drank half of the pour neat before discovering it was bottled ~61% abv and didn’t even notice. The nose is oak-y, with spice and vanilla coming forward first followed by a cherry aroma. The palate picks up a bit of spice, a lot of the oak and leather described and trails off into a rich tobacco finish that probably changes 2-3 more times before fading out. I’m intrigued by this one! Try it without water first but I do recommend a splash to spread the flavors/aromas out.16.0 USD per PourCoronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa
