Cruzan Aged Light Rum
Silver Rum — US Virgin Islands
Reviewed January 19, 2020 (edited December 21, 2024)You know, this isn't actually bad. Nose is light and clean with citrus and grass notes. Palate is sweet and relatively smooth. Finish is lacking, and there's definitely some raw ethanol bite going on, but for the price this has a lot of character and tastes pretty decent. -
I don't really drink rum neat, so I don't have much basis for comparison. Regardless, this strikes me as pretty good. Nose has a strong ethanol note that subsides after a couple minutes, at which point overripe banana, green grass, and coconut take over. Palate is sweet vanilla sugar with a tiny bit of coconut and rum funk. Great for the price, and my go to white rum.

Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 18, 2020 (edited January 26, 2020)This might be my favorite bourbon ever. Loads of brown sugar and vanilla with a hint of cherry on the nose. Palate is a little spicy, with round vanilla and toffee flavors. Exceptionally nice, and an absolute bargain at $30. -
Highland Park 12 Year Viking Honour
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed January 4, 2020 (edited January 10, 2020)Dried plums, raisins, and black cherries in thick vanilla syrup on the nose. Palate is caramel and vanilla with a hint of peat. Subtle menthol and smoke on the finish. One of my favorite drams!
