Dark RumAKA Black Rum. Usually aged (but not always) and has additional caramel-coloring added to provide the dark/black color. Some are distilled from blackstrap molasses. No specific type or size barrel required for aging nor is there a set time required for aging in most countries with a few exceptions.

"There's not a lot of nuance on the nose of light vanilla and lighter wood, but the heat present in some other Cruzan offerings is also diminished--a quality that carries through to the palate where caramel sweetness and notes of toasty hazelnut prevail. The finish is medium to long with extended vanilla, toasty caramel and woody-nutty undertones. A pleasant sipper that's good for the price."
