Blanton's Original Single Barrel
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 8, 2016 (edited December 17, 2016)I haven't been drinking bourbon for a terribly long time, but I think this is my favorite (tied, maybe, with Stagg Jr.). On the nose I get a very smooth sweetness like my nose is chewing on caramel. It's also very fruity like cherries, maybe even citrus. Oakiness and smoke (not like peat) hit my tongue first, but quickly back off into a sweet finish that reminds me of the nose. It's complex, and hard for my tongue to unpack all the flavors. But it is delicious and definitely worth the price. -
I picked up a bottle of this and was pleasantly surprised. After seeing it on the shelf at the liquor store, and seeing it's very affordable price, I decided to take a risk. I've never had Jim Beam before, but this was certainly a good place to start. The nose was beautifully sweet and woody while the palate opened up a bit more caramel and brought even more oak than the aroma did. The finish was medium length, light and slightly spicy but eventually developed into a very pleasant honey aftertaste that left me wanting another sip. Four out of five stars in general, but five out of five for the price range.
