A rich, brandy from Bodegas Torres; founded in 1870 by Jaime Torres Vendrell as one of Spain’s premier wineries, but the family had been growing grapes in the area for more than one hundred years before that. the “30” refers to the average age of the brandies in this blend and “Jaime” is in honor of the founder. It opens with notes of grape, coconut, dried cherry & spice; while the body adds floral notes, fig & tobacco; that leads to a long & velvety finish with notes of vanilla, nuts & almond. A rich, 10-year-old Armenian brandy from the Ararat brand. The Yerevan Brandy Company even has its own cooperage to create the barrels to age their rich, spicy brandies. It opens sweet & spicy with notes of exotic spice, vanilla, plum jam, toffee & a hint of potpourri; while a round & creamy, full bodied palate adds notes of sultanas, dried apricots, creamy vanilla & a hint of pear; that lead to a rich & spicy finish with notes of cinnamon & toasted oak. A rich, 'VSOP Grande Champagne Cognac by Paul & his wife Denise in Cognac, France made with Ugni Blanc & a tiny fraction of Colombard grapes, all grown within the majestic family vineyards & aged in new & seasoned French barrique. It has an aromatic birth with notes of dried fruits, Cedar, white flowers, grapes, fig, vanilla & a hint of toast; while a rich life adds notes of pear, mango, raisins dusted with brown sugar, honey, caramelized apple; that leads to a long & spicy death with notes of rancio & blood orange. An elegant, Brandy from Cognac, France made from 100% Ugni Blanc; aged in lightly toasted Limousin oak barrels from 2-12 years. It is named for the year in which the Hardy Distillery was founded. It has a delicate & floral birth with notes of cappuccino, vanilla & a hint of citrus zest; while an elegant life adds notes of café latte, orange marmalade & jasmine; that leads to an off-dry death of medium length. Cardenal Mendoza Carta Real Solera Gran Reserva Brandy de Jerez

Reviewed July 21, 2024A rich, Brandy by Sánchez Romate Distillery in Cadiz, Spain aged for minimum of 25 years in ex-Sherry casks using the solera method. The first barrels were laid down in 1981 to celebrate the bicentennial of the bodega, but the first release did not come until the turn of the century. It has an aromatic birth with notes of plum, sultanas & must; while a rich life adds notes of dates, blackberry preserve, figs, caramel, walnuts & old leather; that leads to a thick & off-dry death of medium length with hints of dried herbs & Sherry. An elegant, Bas-Armagnac Hors d’âge by Domaine Tariquet in Tariquet, France distilled from 60% Ugni Blanc & 40% Baco grapes, aged for a minimum of 15 years in oak before bottling. It has an aromatic birth with notes of freshly baked bread, warm weather florals & dried fruits; while an elegant & velvety life adds notes of stewed fruits, fresh plum, currants, clove, dried ginger, hints of tangy oak, truffle, pecan & orange zest; that leads to a delicate death with hints of bitter dark chocolate, honey, dried cherry & apricot. An intense, Single Malt Spanish Whisky created by a trio of flavor masters: Jesus Barquin co-wrote the Bible of Andalucía wines; Eduardo Ojeda is a Master Blender & a skillful hunter of barrels; Nicolas Palazzi, the founder of PM Spirits for the DYC Distillery in Jerez, Spain. It was distilled in copper pot still from Spanish Malt & spent a full decade in barrels that used to hold Oloroso Sherry, that was then bottled at 52.5% ABV with less than a thousand bottles released. It has an aromatic birth with notes of Sherry, dried fruits, pecan, malt, butter, herbs & spices; while a juicy life adds notes of butter, nuts, hints of cherry, dates, allspice, leather & clove; that lead to a long & rich death.
