Tastes

First tasting mediocre, tasting w/ 4 other caol ila expressions. Similar to uigedahl in rough mouthfeel but one dimensional in flavor profile unlike that Ardbeg expression. Kind of like kilchoman sanaig but with cask strength punch but the flavor is fainter than that. I won’t seek out whisky exchange’s indie bottlings after trying this “show” expression.

First tasting, comparing to 4 other caol ila expressions. This has a young butterscotch off note. The Moscatel notes are faint. Not as good as the standard 12 yr.

Excellent for the price. No young malty off notes. Pretty comparable to laphroaig 16 except this has a metallic note in the finish more reminiscent of Lagavulin 16. I’m tasting this in the context of 4 other caol ila expressions. Need to taste this alongside laphroaig 16 and Lagavulin 16 at some point.

On first taste, not great. Bad version of larceny. Maybe the rebel 10 yr is more refined/ tasty but don’t want to buy a bottle of it. Need to try a sample of that or a pour at a bar. What makes this expression so bad is the extreme, putrid spice note borne of its youth

This distillery is unimpressive and this is the worst of their expressions that i’ve tried. The bland peat notes characteristic of talisker are overpowered by rye-like spice in the finish. Just terrible.

Bad whisky. Peat notes are bland and simple, heather and brine.

This is shit bc overpriced but would be mediocre even at $100. The auchentoshan note present in the 10 yr is still there but subdued. Apple notes replace the citrus i detected in the 10. There is a pleasant bitterness introduced at this age which adds much needed balance. Peat notes are still as uninteresting as in the 10, storm and skye.

Auchentoshan note, citrus, uninteresting simple peat notes. Not as bad as storm or skye.

Second tasting. Gross. Like a peaty auchentoshan. That floral note is more subtle than auchentoshan but it’s there and off putting.

Tasting this vs standard, islay barley and olc, each of which i like, olc the most. This one might need to open up, but the wine notes are faint and a metallic note is pretty prominent. Like it the least of the 4. The nougat note is very off putting
