High West High Country American Single Malt (2021 Release)
American Single Malt — Utah, USA
Reviewed February 10, 2022 (edited February 11, 2022)Very sweet in the beginning with notable flavors of vanilla and floral spice. Astringent dry finish which is in contrast to the soft velvet like mouthfeel initially. You taste the barley husks at the end…find a friend who already bought this and save yourself the sadness of overspending. It’s 35 bucks good, not 80 bucks good. I’ll keep trying single malt American Whiskeys due to their unique flavor profile but man this style is a crapshoot. -
The nose is not very inviting. Strong spicy wood character with a defining finish of corn on the cob. Something is not quite right with this offering, what it is I cannot tell. It’s fun to compare and contrast this to other Few bottles that don’t have to confine to bottled in bond standards. Whether they’ll distill and bottle this again is going to be interesting to me…I hope they held some barrels back and will be releasing a longer aged version, the youth of this whiskey is very apparent.45.0 USD per Bottle
