Kavalan Sherry Oak Single Malt
Single Malt — Taiwan
Reviewed February 2, 2020 (edited April 21, 2021)Kavalan sherry oak is definitely my favourite Kavalan so far, and rates high generally! Inviting dark honey colour. Lovely and fruity(dark), with a hum of the oak and it's vanilla tones in support. There's also that sweet baking aroma, similar to scones baking (probably a specific aroma, but I can't put my finger on it). Beautifully oily on the palate and a wonderful warming, dark fruit-filled finish. Is it worth the £85 price tag? Yes, I reckon it is, it's definitely 'special occasion whiskey' (or a sneaky one to yourself in front of the fire on a winter night!). Bravo Kavalan, BRAVO! 👍🤤🥃85.0 GBP per Bottle -
This one is the port cask, so a lovely deep amber colour, rich dark fruits on the nose, plenty of sweetness. There's a slight citrus edge to the aroma too, a nice addition that compliments the dark fruits nicely. At 40% there's very little ethanol going on, which is nice. Nice mouth feel, oily and rich. Dark fruit follows to the palate, but the citrus not so much. Not quite as sweet as the nose would suggest. There might be chocolate? Finish is a bit metallic, doesn't linger, over quite quickly with that fruity undercurrent. Pretty nice
