Tastes

This is a lovely Rye whiskey insomuch as it delivers spice and floral notes in the same moment. It’s very complex with a slightly sweet base and the consistency of a delightful mouthful of spice clear through a nice long finish. I’m very impressed with the ever changing profile based on what I may have eaten before sipping. I’ve sipped it a number of times before writing this review, and as always, neat with a few drops of water.

I’m surprised at the lower rating this received. Perhaps because it’s Jack D or perhaps the price point. This has a lot of character. It starts off with a big hit of banana bread on the nose and it follows through on the palate. There’s some floral notes and sweet grain. It’s more complex than one might think but small sips are a must to appreciate it. The rye spice is solid through the finish, although the other characteristics a fade a little early. It’s a fine Rye and as always I sip neat with a few drops of water.

Some notes talk about leather or tobacco and while I love the long spicy finish there’s an overwhelming ethanol hit in the mid sip that’s a little off-putting particularly because of the price point.
