WhistlePig 6 Year PiggyBack Rye
Rye
WhistlePig // (bottled in) Vermont, Canada
WhistlePig PiggyBack Rye Whiskey launched in select US markets in 2019 as a permanent addition to the WhistlePig core range. Crafted by the late legendary master distiller Dave Pickerell who passed away in 2018 and master blender Pete Lynch, WhistlePig PiggyBack Rye is a 6 year-old 100% rye whiskey.
The shape of the bottle was changed from the standard WhistlePig wide shape to make the bottle easier to handle for bartenders. The pig that adorns the bottle is not wearing the standard WhistlePig top hat, but rather a Stetson hat, Dave's trademark.

RyeUnlike bourbon, rye whiskey can be made anywhere in the world. But if made in the US, the mash bill recipe must be at least 51% rye and it must be aged in new, charred oak barrels with no age requirement. Elsewhere, the rye whiskey will be made keeping the country of origin's rules regarding the recipe and minimum aging.

Tasting Notes
"PiggyBack is a very welcome addition to the WhistlePig line, introducing an affordable rye with tons of character. It's sweet on the nose and spicy up front with notes of apple, vanilla, and cacao. It has the strength to stand up in a cocktail but will also be quite enjoyable on its own for fans of bold American whiskeys."
