Tastes

Tonight's flavor is 1835 Bourbon Single Barrel. I am a fan of 1835 as it's one of the first bourbons I've tasted. This one is a vanilla strong, nutty smash of the tongue, mixed with a hot burn and warm lingering aftertaste. It's not complex and not loaded with much else. I appreciate it for it's simplicity.

Tonight, I decided to try a sample from Michters. I really like the smooth caramel flavor. I can taste a hint of orange bitters in a low burn warm finish. It has a very pleasant caramel aftertaste that lingers. I really like this one.

Super excited to try the Weller. I found it to be a sweet vanilla roll across the tongue with subtle honey and very light fruity flavor followed by a caramel bump at the end. The medium burn lingers after for a very pleasant warm feeling. For a $40 bottle, it is well worth it.

Tonight's warm hug comes from Woodford Reserve. I am a fan of most of what they produce. This selection is no exception. The double oaked aging really brings out a solid char taste. I love the smokey butterscotch flavor. The sip ends with a bitter oak warm kick mixed with a solid rye spice. As you can tell, I like it, but it isn't like the standard distillers select. It's far better.

Tonight's Kentucky hug comes from our friends at Four Roses. Their small batch select starts with a spicy burn that settles into a vanilla and oak char mix. The spice continues through the finish for a mild warmth. This is a unique flavor profile from the ones I've tried. Definitely not one of the sweeter bourbons, and the spice isn't overwhelming. It is a delightful marriage of spice, oakey burn, and subtle vanilla.

I can immediately taste the strong vanilla and caramel flavor with a strong spicy finish ending with cinnamon. I can definitely taste the age in this one. It is one of the smoothest bourbons I've tried, and, one of my favorites. Very very pleasant.

So, finally tried the Colonel EH Taylor. Easily my favorite so far. Such a great flavor. Nice and sweet, a hint of cherry vanilla, and a wonderfully smooth ride. Almost no burn. Loved every sip.

Tonight, I get the pleasure of enjoying some Batch 23 Barrel bourbon. It's a blend of 10,12 and 15 year bourbons. It has a pleasant initial burn, with a nutty and buttery flavor. It ends with a subtle fruit jam note and a creamy caramel blend. I like this one a good deal too. Total Wine has it in stock.

Tonight I'm going back to the Peerless Single Barrel store pick from Skip's Beer, Wine & Liquor. Love this one. Toasted marshmallow and caramel. Low burn... When I tried the small batch from them, the love wasn't as strong.

So, I finally got to try Widow Jane. I can honestly say, she wasn't a widow due to the bourbon. I found the light vanilla and creamy start quite unique. I can taste some subtle tropical fruit flavors and a heavy spicey finish. I really like this one too. Very smooth.
